RJH Cycle Services is your local, totally independent, mobile cycle servicing and maintenance service, serving much of Hertfordshire from our base in Harpenden (see the Areas Covered page for a more detailed map). The aim is to make it as easy and convenient for you to get your bike(s) serviced or maintained to a high standard without the sometimes huge associated costs.
A very common thread I've heard from customers since we started in 2016, is that the hassle of taking a bike to the local (or, for our more rural customers, not-so-local) bike shop often prevented them from completing routine maintenance, or even having minor issues corrected.
I trained at the Bike Inn in April 2016 (then in Spalding, it has now moved up to Cumbria and has been passed on from the original tutors) which provided me with a City & Guilds Level 2 Cycle Technician certificate, the Bike Inn Certificate of Attainment (the highest qualification then available), but more importantly a wealth of knowledge, and a support network of vastly-experienced colleagues. The course covered everything from old-style cup-and-cone bearings right up to modern day hydraulic braking systems.
The other main factor that seems to affect how and when customers get their bikes checked and serviced is price. As you can see from our Services page, our prices are competitive with well-respected local bike shops, and we're also happy to quote for any work beforehand if you're not sure whether it's worth going ahead. If you compare our prices with similar services, you may think we could get away with charging more, so why don't we? Quite simply, because we believe our prices are fair and reasonable, and the ultimate goal is to get more people out on their bikes. This can only happen if it's affordable to keep them in full working order, so we try to keep our costs down and are happy to pass on these savings to you, our customers.
As you can see from a browse around the site, we offer all of the usual services - inner tube and brake pad replacement, bike healthchecks and various levels of servicing, from basic to a full stripdown - as well as some others: we can obtain a wide range of parts and components, along with a variety of nutritional goodies from many of the big brands as well as some smaller, lesser-known companies.
As well as mechanical offerings, and things to support you while you ride, we also offer Cycle Training so we can help keep you safer on the roads. I've been a National Standards Instructor since October 2017, and have been teaching Bikeability in local schools since then*.
A love of bikes, the joy of fixing and repairing, and the opportunity to pass on newfound skills became the basis of RJH Cycle Services. I hope you find my prices reasonable, especially given the level of training involved. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me, I'll be happy to help.
I hope to hear from you very soon!
